Rt. Ov. — Right Ovary (राईट ओवरी)

First place both feet on both sides of their neck. Then, with your right sole, give pressure on their left hand at three places from elbow to wrist. The other foot stays near the ear. At each place press with the middle part of the sole for six seconds and release. Done once from elbow to wrist, this is called (1) Rt. Ov. Do as many rounds as are written. (Figure 17.1)

Patient's positionSupine, no pillow under the head unless there is need of one; the therapist at the head end, supported on both chairs Supine
Where the feet are placedBoth feet first beside the neck; then the right sole on the patient's left forearm at three places, elbow → wrist; the left foot stays near the ear, carrying nothing Left
Duration and repetitions6 seconds at each place, middle of the sole; one elbow-to-wrist pass = (1) Rt. Ov.; as many rounds as are written 6 sec
What it is forReduces the pain below the navel on the right side, and especially increases blood circulation in the right ovary and in the region of the appendix in women

Read the crossing first. The point is named Right Ovary and given on the left forearm — the atlas rule again: the arms answer pains between the navel and the perineum, and the left limb answers the right of the navel.

Lt. Ov. — Left Ovary (लेफ्ट ओवरी)

First place both feet on both sides of their neck. Then, with the middle part of your left sole, give pressure on their right hand at three places from elbow to wrist. The other foot stays near the ear. At each place press for six seconds and release. Done once from elbow to wrist, this is (1) Lt. Ov.

The order of the pair, and the one thing that changes it

When both are to be given, ordinarily Rt. Ov. is given first and Lt. Ov. afterwards — but this order may also change according to the point of pain.

How many places on the forearm. The station rule governing Rt. Ov. and Lt. Ov. — three for an ordinary person, four for a tall patient, five if the therapist is a young child, two for a very small child, the principle being that no space is left empty from one joint to the other joint — is taught in full in The Front of the Body I. The half of it that names these points bears saying again: while giving WD and Pit, keep equal weight on both soles. Both sides

What lies beneath. At the elbow, the arm's main artery and the median nerve close under the skin in front, the "funny bone" nerve in its groove behind; at the middle of the forearm, the muscles that bend the wrist and fingers; at the wrist, almost nothing but tendon — the lightest of the three. The ovaries lie deep on the side walls of the pelvis, out of reach of any hand from outside; what the point is named for is the ache low in the belly on that side.

Why the spleen and the ovary, when the trouble is in the bowel?

A point's name is a postal address, not a description of the parcel

A natural question arises. To cure constipation, why are Spl — the spleen — and Lt. Ov. — the left ovary — being stimulated? Constipation has come about because the movement of food in the alimentary canal is very slow, and both of these are outside the alimentary canal.

Here is the thing to attend to. By our points we increase the blood circulation in the various parts of the abdomen all around the navel. Each point's name has been given by keeping in mind the chief organ in that region. But when we give that point, it will increase blood flow not only in that organ, but in all the organs that are in that region.

In the region above and to the left of the navel the chief organ is the spleen — but the left terminal part of the transverse colon and the upper part of the descending colon are there too, and when Spl is given, blood flow increases in all three. In the same way Mu removes the pains of the left side of the navel: besides the small intestine, the middle part of the descending colon is there, so it is stimulated as well. And Lt. Ov. takes out the pain of the region below and to the left of the navel, where besides the ovaries or testes there is the terminal part of the descending colon and the sigmoid colon.

What a point's name means, and what it does not

In this formula the point Spl has not been given in order to stimulate the spleen, but rather for that part of the large intestine.

This is one of the most freeing ideas in the whole formulary, and it disposes of a great deal of student anxiety. A point name is a postal address, not a description of the parcel. You are not pressing a spleen; you are increasing the blood supply to a region that happens to contain a spleen, and also contains two lengths of colon that nobody thought to name a point after.

An everyday version: you open the tap in the kitchen and the pressure drops in the bathroom, because you did not turn on "the kitchen" — you drew from a pipe that serves both rooms. Blood is that pipe.

Table 4 — Why each point of LSTF is given

PointThe reason it is in the formula
SplTo stimulate the terminal part of the transverse colon and the upper part of the descending colon
ConstWhenever there is constipation, there is pain at this point — so, to take that pain out
MuTo stimulate the middle part of the descending colon, and to increase lubrication in the intestines, so that the residue of stool moves forward easily
Lt. Ov.To stimulate the terminal part of the descending colon and the sigmoid colon
Mu°To reduce acidosis — because when acid is high, constipation will certainly occur
AdrTo reduce inflammation in the intestines. By this, acid will also be reduced
ThrdBecause one main cause of constipation is the thyroid gland working too little
