One push, a reading on a finger, the push back, and the re-centring
However good a treatment may be, it is not the case that everyone will get the same benefit from it. So even after this, some new treatment was bound to be made — this is exactly the speciality of this therapy, that new discoveries go on being made.
From July 2006, the New Star and Alkaline Star formulas above were broken apart and a new order was made, which is very effective in all kinds of joint pain .
Look at what the rebuild actually does before you learn its steps, because then it learns itself. The two earlier formulas each pushed a patient in one direction and left him there. The rebuild pushes him first one way, then the other, and then brings him back to the middle — and it checks the finger in between to see whether the first push has arrived. (Figure 36.7)
THE METHOD, STEP BY STEP The five-stage rebuild of July 2006 {{6s}} Stage I — the New Star Acid treatment . Stage II — Mukha Dhauti . After this, Mukha Dhauti is to be got done — ten times, then rest for one minute, then ten times again — going on like this until the pain of the left hand's ring finger comes out. By this the acid will be reduced, that is, alkali will rise. Then give two minutes' rest, and check again whether the pain has fully gone from the left finger or not. If by now there is no pain, then after that, to reduce the alkali, the treatment below is to be given. Seated Left

TAKE CARE What (10) Medulla brings into stage IV Stage IV contains (10) Medulla, and that point's prohibitions travel into every formula that carries it:
Not in diabetes . Not in cancer . And in heart patients, (10) Left Medulla only.
This is not a caution about the Star family and not a caution about the graded Medulla series in general — it belongs to (10), and it does not attach to the other members of that series. If the patient in front of you is diabetic, stage IV as written cannot be given, and that is a question for whoever supervises your practice rather than a blank to be filled in by guesswork.
And stage I's Lt. Ch. Only carries the chest point's own bar: Ch. Only is not given in lung cancer.
Notice, finally, what stage II implies about stage I. A protocol that deliberately pushes a patient one way, measures the result on a finger, pushes back the other way, and then spends two whole stages re-centring is a protocol that takes its own effects seriously. The re-centring is not the tail of the treatment. It is the reason the treatment can be given at all.

A CASE FROM PRACTICE The schoolmaster whose report said negative A composite case, assembled to teach the reasoning rather than taken from one patient's file.
Vivek Ranjan Tiwari · 46 · secondary school teacher · Gorakhpur · came with pain in both hands and both feet for two years, "worse in the morning"
What he came with. "Sir, in the morning my hands are like wood for one hour. After that they open. By evening I am all right, and next morning the same thing again. Two years." He had been told it was sandhi vāta by one person and gout by another, and he had a single blood report in a plastic folder.
What was observed and palpated. He held his chalk between the sides of two fingers rather than the tips. Both wrists were slightly puffy in a soft way, not bony. Around the navel : Gal tender at three plus, Pan tender, motions hard, every second day. Mu° tender at three plus; Liv° tender but distinctly less. And the test that decided the case: both ring fingers squeezed at the same time — both painful, the left worse. On the card: Lt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺, Rt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺.
Which reports mattered. The one report he had said RA Factor — Negative, and he had been carrying it about for a year as proof that nothing serious was the matter. It mattered a great deal, and not in the way he thought. Written on the card: the date of the report, then RA negative; and beneath it, in the therapist's own words, pain both ring finger middle joints , left worse, four plus — "RA hai". What was not written was RA positive, which would have been a statement about a laboratory result that the laboratory had not made.
What was said to him, in the first ten minutes. That a negative test does not settle the question; that pain in both ring fingers is an indicator that this disease may perhaps come later on; and that he should see a doctor about his joints within the month whatever else happened here. He took the referral because it was given as part of the treatment and not as a disclaimer.
What was chosen, and why. Joint pain with Mu° ⁺⁺⁺ — the required key. And more than one qualifier: more pain in the left ring finger, and Mu° greater than Liv°. Two keys, both turned. Part I — (4) Medulla clockwise with T1/T2 ; no neck pain , so no Neck ghisai . Part II — the New Star Modified formula. Part III — All joints ghisai , fingers to shoulder, a minute between each.
Session by session. Alternate days at first. By the third day, the morning stiffness in the fingers had come down from an hour to about twenty minutes, and by the end of the first week the fingers and both wrists were clear — which is exactly where the stated order says the pain leaves first. Week three: the elbows quiet. Week five: shoulders. He then went through a flat fortnight in which nothing changed at all, and said so unhappily.
What was done when the first approach seemed to stall. Nothing was changed. He was shown Table 9 — the order in which pain leaves — and the card showing that his hands, elbows and shoulders had cleared in the recorded order. Then he was asked one question: does the pain come back in a particular finger within a few hours of leaving here? It did. The left one. So Mukha Dhauti was added, taught to him seated on a chair, ten, one minute, ten, and taught to his wife so it could be done at home. At the fourth month the waist and thighs were easier; the heels lagged; the soles of his toes were the last thing to settle, in the seventh month, precisely as the table says.
What went wrong because something was withheld. In the second month his progress reversed for ten days. He had not mentioned that a relative had started him on a strong oil massage of the hands twice a week — firm, working, painful — on the theory that more must be better. It was stopped. The lesson had already been printed in this article: on these joints, very, very light.
What this case teaches
A negative report is a finding, not an all-clear. The sign is in the hands, and the sign came first.
Record the finding; do not record a diagnosis you did not make. "RA hai" with the palpation written out beside it is honest and useful. "RA positive" would have been neither.
The order in which pain leaves is the answer to the flat fortnight. Keep the record so you can show it.
When relief does not hold for hours, ask which finger comes back — that question chose the Mukha Dhauti, and nothing else would have.

What she came with. "All my joints. But this side" — the right — "is the one that wakes me." She had had a Star formula elsewhere for three weeks and had come away worse, which is why she had come in the first place: not for a treatment but for an explanation.
What was observed and palpated. Motions loose, twice most days. A little morning puffiness of the face which had gone by noon. Skin behind both knees moist and itchy. At the two kidney points: Liv° tender at three plus, Mu° almost silent. And the test: both ring fingers painful — the right distinctly the worse. Card: Rt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺, Lt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺.
Which reports mattered. She brought a two-year-old X-ray of one knee showing wear, which changed nothing — such wear is found in a great many knees that do not hurt. Her blood pressure, taken in the room, 148/94, mattered. So did her account of the motions and the morning swelling, which cost nothing to obtain and pointed the same way as everything else.
What had gone wrong before. She had been given the New Star Modified formula, because she had joint pain and both ring fingers hurt. Half the rule had been read. The required key — Mu° ⁺⁺⁺ — was absent; her Mu° was silent. And she fell squarely inside both written exclusions: pain only worth the name in the right ring finger, and pain at Liv° with none at Mu°. She had been pushed further in the direction she was already leaning, for three weeks.
What was chosen, and why. Pain in both ring fingers with Liv° ⁺⁺⁺, and more pain in the right hand's finger — the Alkaline Star's own indication, twice over. (3) ONS (6) TF (3) NNS (6) WD (6) Gal (4) Ku -Old (20) ↑|↓ — WD ahead of Gal, and the old Kundali rather than the forty-second hold, because from the old Ku pain comes at Mu°, which means it increases acid — that is, alkali will be reduced. No Mukha Dhauti, because her selection rule reads left worse than right, and hers was the other way about.
Session by session. The first week was quiet — no dramatic relief, no worsening, which after three weeks of going backwards she counted as a good week. By the tenth day the right shoulder let her sleep. Week three: hands and wrists. Week six: the knees, which had been her complaint but were fourth in the order. Mu° was checked at every visit and was watched for pain — it came up mildly twice, and on both occasions the Round Arrow after Ku took it away, exactly as that rule says it does.
What was withheld, and why she had to be told. She arrived in the fifth week with a suggestion from a neighbour that she should have "the treatment for immunity ". She was told plainly what this article's caution says: in rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune disorder, Armpit , Lymph , Spl, Thymus , Thymus + Chest , Ton 'P' and Ton 'T' are withheld — because where the body's defences have already turned round on it, you do not stimulate them further. She was also asked, and encouraged, to tell her own physician about the high readings taken in the room, which she had never mentioned to anybody.
What this case teaches
Both fingers hurting is not enough to choose a formula. The required key is Mu° ⁺⁺⁺, and the comparison — which finger is worse, which kidney point is worse — decides the direction.
The two exclusions are written down because this exact mistake is easy. Only the right finger and only Liv° both bar the New Star Modified.
A patient who got worse elsewhere is carrying information, not a grievance. Read what was given and why it failed, and you will often be reading the diagnosis.
The Round Arrow behind Ku earns its place in the ordinary week, not only in theory. Watch Mu°; if it speaks, the arrow answers it.
DID YOU KNOW? The pea in the middle of the head The pineal gland is about the size of a grain of rice, sits almost exactly in the centre of the skull on the roof of a fluid-filled chamber, and for a long time nobody knew what it did. What it makes is melatonin, and what governs it is light — reaching it by a long, roundabout nerve route that runs from the back of the eye, down into the cord at the level of the first two beads of the chest, out to a knot of nerve in the neck , and only then up to the gland.
Two things in that sentence are worth holding. It is the body's clock, which is why so much about a person changes when their sleep does. And the route to it passes through T1/T2 — the same two beads that stand at the head of this article's full protocol.
FROM AYURVEDA AND YOGA The sour taste, and the joints The old physicians divided conduct into what agrees with a body and a disease and what does not, and food was never a side issue in that scheme — it was half the treatment. Among the six tastes they singled out the sour one as the taste that aggravates complaints of the joints.
Which is exactly what this therapy finds, and why patients with joint pain are asked to keep away from curd, tamarind, tomato and lemon. But the tradition insisted on the particular over the general in the same breath — every single thing will not have the same effect on every person — and so must you. An instruction to avoid sour food means one thing in a Punjabi kitchen and something much larger in a Tamil one, where tamarind is not a sour thing but simply how food tastes. Translate the restriction into the household's actual cooking before you give it, or you have not given it at all.
WHAT TO CARRY AWAY The Star family began from two findings and one thought. The findings: joint-pain patients always had pain at Gal, and their stomach was also bad. The thought: that a disease which for many years will not leave a person must have its connection with the planets — leading through the cakras to the pineal gland, which the Ku treatment is held to stimulate. The decision that followed: stimulate Gal, set the stomach, stimulate the pineal.
Four further steps built the rest of it. The pineal's message must reach the organs through the thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves ; an obstruction on a road makes a traffic jam; unevenness in the alignment of the beads is such an obstruction; and the Round Arrow already existed to set the circulation through them.
Old Star = (3) ONS (3) Gal (4) Ku (20) ↑|↓ — navel set, Gal pain taken out, pineal stimulated, nutrients carried. Whoever had an old pain, their pain used to lessen at once, and the formula became so dear to the people that it truly became a star.
(20) ↑|↓ follows Ku for a stated reason: Ku produced pain at Mu° in some people, with signs of acidosis , and the Round Arrow took that pain away. The pairing is used in many formulas.
The WD variant = (3) WD (1) Gal (4) Ku (20) ↑|↓, with (3) ONS first if there is a need — because the planets' connection is from birth, so it must reach the generative organs.
New Star = (6) Gal (6) WD (½) Ku – 40 secs (20) ↑|↓ — Gal raised to force bile through any block at the ampulla of Vater, and (4) Ku replaced by a single forty-second hold.
New Star Modified = (3) ONS (20) TF (6) NNS (6) Gal (6) WD (½) Ku – 40 secs (20) ↑|↓ — three navel-setting stations in front, for those whose digestion is not right or whose navel is upset, and extremely useful in RA. Formerly alternate days; nowadays daily if there is need; later twice or once a week.
All-joints ghisai: after the formula, very, very light rubbing with your own palms, every joint from the fingers to the shoulder, with one minute between joints — because an ordinary person takes a minute to take sixteen breaths, and sixteen breaths are needed for more than about ninety per cent of the CO₂ to come out. Without the interval the full benefit will not be had.
The both-ring-fingers sign. All RA patients had a great deal of pain at the middle joint of the ring finger of both hands — the proximal inter-phalangeal joint. Squeeze both at the same time, ask which is worse, and grade it: Lt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺ or Rt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺, or ⁺⁺⁺ / ⁺⁺.
RA factor is positive in other diseases too — hepatitis , syphilis, liver cirrhosis, SLE, scleroderma , acute bacterial or viral infection . Write the date of the report and the result; write ANA where that is what is positive.
Joint pain with both ring fingers painful, and no report or a negative one: write "RA hai" — and RA positive is not to be written. Pain in the ring finger is an indicator that this person may perhaps get RA later on. Whether there is a report or not, the treatment of both is one and the same.
The full protocol: I (4) Medulla Clockwise + T1/T2, plus Neck ghisai if there is pain in the neck; II the New Star Modified formula; then the All joints ghisai.
Pain leaves in a fixed order, the same for all patients: fingers and wrist within two or three days, then elbow, shoulders, waist, thighs, heels — and last of all the feet, the upper part of the toes first and the soles at the very end.
Mukha Dhauti for those with joint pain and much pain at Mu° or at the left ring finger's middle joint, but not as much in the right. Seated on a chair, normal breath in through the nose , thrown out forcefully through the mouth , ten times, one minute's rest, ten again — ten rounds, at most fifteen, that is 100–150 times; up to 150 morning and evening for the first day or two where the left finger is very painful. Check the finger as you go and stop as soon as its pain goes — because if too much acid goes out at once the alkali will increase for a time, and the body may perhaps not be able to bear it.
Give the New Star Modified for joint pain with Mu° ⁺⁺⁺ and any one of: equal pain in both ring fingers · more pain in the left · equal pain at Liv° and Mu° · Mu° greater than Liv°. It is also offered in psoriasis , low back pain , cervical spondylitis , knee pain , osteo-arthritis , chorea and gout — and, since the pain of both the B₁₂ and the folic acid points has been seen to go after it, in diseases arising from the spoiling of the genes. Research on this is continuing.
Do not give the New Star Modified to those with pain only in the right ring finger, or those with pain only at Liv° and none at Mu°.
Alkaline Star = (3) ONS (6) TF (3) NNS (6) WD (6) Gal (4) Ku-Old (20) ↑|↓ — for both fingers painful with Liv° ⁺⁺⁺, or more pain in the right finger. Gal reduces alkali, WD reduces acid, so their order is reversed; and the old Ku is chosen because from it pain comes at Mu° — it increases acid, so alkali will be reduced.

आयुर्वेद और योग से खट्टा रस, और जोड़ पुराने वैद्यों ने रहन-सहन को दो हिस्सों में बाँटा था: जो शरीर और बीमारी, दोनों के साथ बैठता है, और जो नहीं बैठता; और उस पूरे हिसाब में खाना कभी किनारे की बात नहीं था — वह आधा ट्रीटमेंट था। छह रसों में से उन्होंने खट्टे रस को छाँटकर अलग रखा: यही वह रस है, जो जोड़ों की तकलीफ़ें बढ़ाता है।
यही बात इस थेरेपी को भी मिलती है, और इसीलिए जोड़ों के दर्द वाले रोगियों से दही, इमली, टमाटर और नींबू से दूर रहने को कहा जाता है। पर परंपरा ने उसी साँस में आम बात के ऊपर ख़ास बात को रखा — हर एक चीज़ हर व्यक्ति पर एक जैसा असर नहीं करेगी — और आपको भी यही करना है। खट्टे से परहेज़ की एक ही हिदायत पंजाबी रसोई में कुछ और मतलब रखती है, और तमिल रसोई में उससे कहीं बड़ा, जहाँ इमली कोई खट्टी चीज़ नहीं, खाने का स्वाद ही वही है। परहेज़ को उस घर की असली रसोई की भाषा में बदलकर दीजिए, वरना आपने वह हिदायत दी ही नहीं।

दोनों अनामिका उँगलियों वाली निशानी। सभी RA रोगियों को दोनों हाथों की अनामिका के बीच वाले जोड़ पर बहुत ज़्यादा दर्द मिला — यानी प्रॉक्सिमल इंटर-फ़ैलेंजियल जोड़ पर। दोनों को एक साथ भींचिए, पूछिए कि कौन-सी ज़्यादा ख़राब है, और उसका दर्जा तय कीजिए: Lt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺ या Rt. 4ᵗʰ ⁺⁺⁺⁺, या ⁺⁺⁺ / ⁺⁺।
RA फ़ैक्टर दूसरी बीमारियों में भी पॉज़िटिव आता है — हेपेटाइटिस, सिफ़लिस, लीवर सिरोसिस, SLE, स्क्लेरोडर्मा, और तेज़ बैक्टीरियल या वायरल इन्फ़ेक्शन में। रिपोर्ट की तारीख़ और नतीजा लिखिए; और जहाँ पॉज़िटिव ANA हो, वहाँ वही लिखिए।
