The patient now comes off the chair and goes down onto their side, and something changes in the way the atlas is written: the positioning of this group is written out in more detail than several of its treatments are — the plainest way of saying get this right first.

The reason is mechanical, not kind. A body on its side is a stack of moving parts: the pelvis rolls forward or back, the upper leg drops across the lower one or stays level, the shoulder opens away from the mat or closes toward it. Move any one and the tissue under your foot rises, drops, tightens or slackens — and the point you meant to give is not the point you gave.
