There is a name a student will meet in and will come back here to look up, and they should be told plainly that they will not find it. The Complement System formula — the fourteen-part treatment at the very end of the formulary — carries this instruction with it: giving the Complement System after the New UDF formula is beneficial for almost all old diseases.

That is the only place the phrase "the New UDF formula" appears, and no formula in this family is called by that name. The thirteen above are named by what they do or by the patient they were made for — the seed, the modification, the improved and the comprehensive treatments, the two written for diabetics, the simplest, OLD UDF, the four matched to symptoms, and the heaviest. Which of them the instruction means is not said, and it is not for a therapist to decide by guessing.

What the instruction does carry is its order, and the order is the part a therapist acts on: the Complement System comes after a UDF formula and not before one. That is the order this whole article has been teaching — the ash cleared first, the defences raised afterwards. No method is given here for a formula of that name, and none is supplied; choose the UDF formula for the patient in front of you by Table 24 below. (Figure 29.7)

Āma-pācana — the old sequence, and why these formulas have the shape they do

The classical texts did not treat undigested residue by stoking the digestion. They treated it in stages, and the order was the whole of the teaching.

First laṅghana — lightening. Fast, eat less, rest; stop adding to the load before doing anything else. Then pācana — "cooking" the residue, ripening what is already sitting there, and this is given before anything that would stimulate appetite. Only then dīpana — kindling, rekindling the fire itself. And last a graded return to ordinary food.

Now look again at the formulas in this article. The food rules and the fast come first, before any formula at all. Then the infection and inflammation are taken in hand by the Ku. Only in part V, in the middle, is the stomach actually asked to make acid — and the absorption tail comes last of all.

Two systems, two millennia apart, both arriving at the same conclusion: the order is a treatment in its own right, and stimulating digestion first is a mistake.

WHAT TO CARRY AWAY

UDF is Un Digested Food in stools — food seen in the motion in its original shape or colour. It is not a disease. It means the stomach's acid is short, and therefore two things follow: proteins are not digested, and germs that come in with the food are not killed. Every formula in this article answers one or both.

Two mechanisms, one chain. If the pH of the stomach's acid does not go down to 3 or below, pepsin will not be made and proteins will not digest. And all the enzymes, all the chemicals of the brain, and — except the steroid hormones — all the other hormones are made from proteins only. That is the whole argument, and the therapy states it in one sentence: if proteins or fats are not digested properly, or their absorption is not proper, then a deficiency of many enzymes and hormones will come into the body, which will become the cause of diseases coming.

Find it in two minutes without a laboratory. Pain between the solar plexus and the navel; pain at Gas; soft stool three or four times a day, or a motion immediately after eating; lines on the tongue; and in an infant, milk coming up as milk and not as curd. If the patient has never looked at his stool, tell him to look — the very next day he will come and say, yes, undigested food is seen in the motion.

UDF first, the disease second. In old diseases — whatever the disease may be — the treatment for correcting UDF should be the very first stage of the treatment. And when undigested food stops coming in the stool, from that alone a miraculous improvement is seen in the patient's disease.

It does not stay corrected. It will be beneficial to have it checked and put right every four or five months. Write the month on the card.

The three levels every UDF formula works at: the blood circulation in the stomach, so that HCl and pepsin increase; the circulation in gall bladder, liver, pancreas and small intestine, so that digestion, absorption and metabolism happen properly; and immunity, so that there is protection from germs.

One pair is compulsory in every UDF formula ever made: (10) Medulla and Gas Only. Gas Only increases the blood supply in the stomach; (10) Medulla provokes the whole digestive system through the vagus; these two together further increase the stomach's acid, from which pepsin's work will be good and the digestion of proteins will be done well.

And one element is withheld. (10) Medulla is not to be given to cancer patients, because when it works at many places, then perhaps it will provoke the cancer cells too — and not in diabetes; and in heart patients, only (10) Left Medulla. Ku is not given to women during menstruation, nor to those with low blood pressure, and every formula in this article contains a Ku.

The generations in order: the seed, (10) Medulla (6) Gas Only · the modification, (10) Medulla (1) Gas Only – 6 Points × 2 treatments · the improved treatment in four stages · the comprehensive treatment in six · the two treatments written for diabetics · the simplest treatment · OLD UDF · the four symptom-matched formulas — general, stomach-setting, knee-back-CP-alkali, infection-inflammation · body pain, brain disease and paralysis · and the HCl treatment as their companion.

Milder stimulations, repeated often, were found to be more effective than one strong dose. That is why the seed's (6) Gas Only became (1) Gas Only – 6 Points × 2 treatments — and × 3 treatments in stubborn cases where the pain in Gas is more than usual. It is a statement about dose, and it governs far more of this formulary than one formula.

The two diabetic treatments show what a barred point looks like when it is taken out properly. The basic one is (1) Gas Only – 6 Points × 2 treatments — the compulsory element alone. The eight-stage one is the formula for body pain, brain disease and paralysis with (10) Medulla simply not written at stage VII: nothing substituted, nothing added to compensate, the seven other stages untouched.

OLD UDF read whole: (15) Medulla for acetyl choline; Parkhoo light then heavy for folic acid, thiamine, B₁₂ and niacin — niacin so the glands' secretions are made and released, thiamine for the smooth muscle of the stomach and the pylorus through metabolized glucose; (½) Ku – 20 secs × 4 to finish both infection and inflammation; (10) Medulla for the whole digestive system through the vagus; Gas Only for blood supply in the stomach; Gal Spl Liv Mu for the digestive system; and Ajay Normal for absorption.

× N treatments counts sessions; a bracketed number counts applications. (½) Ku – 20 secs × 6 treatments is one hold a day for six days, not six holds in an hour.

The last step is a dial. Ordinarily (4) Gas 'I' – 3 points. Constipation: (6) Gas 'I' – 3 points — and if there is no relief even from that, (2) S4-5 may also be added along with it. Soft motions, or the alkali increased: (1) Gas 'I' – 6 points.

The HCl treatment is given 5 to 15 minutes after a UDF formula, and goes after all three of the things needed for acid — histamine, acetylcholine and gastrin. Any other treatment given after both gives still more benefit.

The patient has a half of this. As soon as we see anything undigested in the motion, the very first thing we should do is change our system of food. A regular eight-day fast under guidance, or at the very least: eat only after hunger has been felt; live food, sprouted grains, fresh fruit juice, salad; and viparīta karaṇī, agnisāra and nāḍī-śuddhi prāṇāyāma to provoke the jaṭharāgni.
