Calcium and vitamin B₁₂ deficiency: the three-part sequence

Also called: Three-part sequence for calcium and B12, 1,25 DCC with Gas Only and liver preface

This three-part sequence is the Neurotherapy (LMNT) treatment for people short of both calcium and vitamin B₁₂ at the same time. It first supports the stomach, then the gall bladder and liver, and then gives the whole 1,25 DCC formula — so that calcium, B₁₂ and other nutrients can be absorbed as well as possible.

Overview

What is the three-part sequence?

The 1,25 DCC formula is named after 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol — the active, working form of vitamin D, which the body makes for itself. It lets the intestine absorb calcium and stops the kidneys losing it. Nothing is swallowed or given; the formula is a sequence of pressures named after a chemical your own body makes.

Patients given 1,25 DCC said their digestion and absorption improved. Then came a further thought: B₁₂ needs intrinsic factor, a substance made in the stomach, to be absorbed — and intrinsic factor is made well only when the stomach's blood supply is good. So where both calcium and B₁₂ are low, two parts were placed before the 1,25 DCC formula.

Read downward it is a supply chain; read upward it is a list of the three places a shortage can arise in someone who eats perfectly well.

Three parts, three doors: the stomach for B₁₂, the liver for the support calcium needs, and the 1,25 DCC pathway itself.

What it is for

What is it used for?

  • For people with a deficiency of both calcium and vitamin B₁₂, to get the greatest benefit from the 1,25 DCC formula.
  • To support the absorption of calcium, B₁₂ and other nutrients.
  • To support the stomach in making intrinsic factor, without which B₁₂ is digested away instead of absorbed.

Points it works through

Which points does it work through?

The sequence has three parts. Its points are listed here as a set, with what each contributes. The exact method is taught hands-on in the Neurotherapy (LMNT) course.

Gas Only

Gas Only, along both thighs — to support blood flow in the stomach so intrinsic factor is made.

Gal

The gall bladder point — paired with the liver for the magnesium stored there, without which calcium is not absorbed properly.

Liv

The liver point — in the second part, and again at the head of the 1,25 DCC formula, as a link in the vitamin D chain.

Para

The parathyroid point — the parathyroid glands control calcium in the blood.

Liv°

Liv°, the right-kidney point — the kidneys make the final active form of vitamin D.

Mu°

Mu°, the left-kidney point — the other kidney.

Ch. Only

Ch. Only, the chest — together with the spinal arrow it keeps acid and alkali in balance at the end.

Round Arrow

The Round arrow along the spine — the balancing partner of the chest.

Position: Lying on the back (supine) for most of the sequence, and face down (prone) for the spinal arrow at the end.

The exact technique is taught hands-on in the Neurotherapy (LMNT) course. See the course →

How it works

How does it work?

Each part is a door that calcium and B₁₂ must pass. The first part supports the stomach so that intrinsic factor is made and B₁₂ survives the journey to the last part of the small intestine. The second fetches the magnesium held in the liver, because calcium binds and is absorbed properly only with magnesium. The third is the vitamin D pathway itself — liver, parathyroid, kidneys — closed with the chest and spine to keep balance.

The body needs about two days to build the calcium-carrying protein in the gut wall, and the protein then lasts for weeks. So when 1,25 DCC is given again, a day is left in between. Half an hour of daily sun is part of the picture, because sunlight on skin starts the vitamin D chain.

Its family

Which formulas are related?

This sequence is a companion in the 1,25 DCC family.

What it is used for

Which conditions is it used in?

Where calcium and B₁₂ are both low, and in the conditions the 1,25 DCC formula serves.

Calcium and bone

B₁₂ and the blood

Safety: when it is held back

  • Leave a day in between when 1,25 DCC is given again — the gut needs about two days to build its calcium-carrying protein. 1,25 DCC (ordinary form)
  • If the kidneys are damaged, 1,25 DCC is not made and bones can become too fragile to bear even a little pressure. In older patients and anyone with kidney disease, ask about thin bones, fractures from small falls and long steroid use; if yes, no forceful pressure on the spine. Kidney disease
  • In osteoporosis the parathyroid point is never given alone; the full formula is the required whole. Para
  • Gas Only is not given in stomach or duodenal ulcer, and in constipation, piles or fistula it must be followed by Gas 'I'. Gas Only
  • Gal is not given in leukaemia, a raised white count or asthma; Liv is not given in liver cancer. Gal
  • Numbness, tingling, unsteady walking or memory change can mean B₁₂ shortage is harming the nerves — see a doctor for tests and treatment. How to tell a patient to see a doctor
  • Children get light treatment only. The Child, the Elder and the Frail: Neurotherapy (LMNT) for Delicate Bodies
  • Keep taking the medicines and supplements your doctor prescribed. Neurotherapy (LMNT) works alongside your medical care, never instead of it.

Common questions

Am I being given vitamin D or B₁₂?

No. Nothing is given. The formula is a sequence of pressures named after the active vitamin D hormone your own body makes.

Why not give it every day?

Because the gut takes about two days to build the protein that carries calcium. Giving it daily asks the cells to restart a two-day job every day.

Why is the stomach treated first?

B₁₂ needs intrinsic factor from the stomach. Without it, B₁₂ is digested away before it reaches the place where it is absorbed.

Is sunlight part of it?

Yes. Half an hour in the sun daily is advised, because sunlight on the skin starts the body's vitamin D chain. Gentle early sun is best.

Surprising facts

1The vitamin that is really a hormone

Vitamin D is made in the skin from sunlight, then changed in the liver and again in the kidneys into an active hormone that switches genes on in distant cells.

2B₁₂ needs a bodyguard

B₁₂ is absorbed only when bound to intrinsic factor from the stomach, and only in the last part of the small intestine, the ileum.

3The liver stores years of B₁₂

The liver holds a store of B₁₂ that can last several years, so a shortage usually shows only after a long time of poor absorption.
