In this formula, (20) ↑|↓ has been given along with (8) Ch. Only. Here is the observation that makes the rest of this section possible.

The balance rule — a proportion, not a list

It has been seen that from Ch. Only alkali becomes less — that is, the symptoms of acid increase — whereas from Round Arrow acid becomes less, that is the symptoms of alkali increase.

Not only that: to balance (20) ↑|↓, (8) Ch. Only is needed, whereas to balance (4) Ch. Only, (10) ↑|↓ is sufficient.

Since neurotherapy treats not the disease but the condition of the body, this observation has been used in a remarkable way: the two counts are deliberately unbalanced in one direction or the other according to what the patient's body needs today.

Twice the chest, twice the spine. Because the rule is stated as a proportion, the four versions that follow are not four things to memorise. They are derivable — and a therapist who has the proportion can check any card he is handed.

And before the treatment is given at all, two things are checked. One should check how much pain there is in Liv° and Mu°. And along with this one should ask the patient whether the stool that comes in his motion is medium or hard. During sixty years of tapasyā it was found that one and the same formula does not apply to all patients. Changing the treatment according to the condition of the patient will give greater benefit.

THE METHOD, STEP BY STEP

Choosing today's version of the 1,25 DCC formula

Four stages, before the foot goes anywhere. The four cards themselves are in Table 28; this is how you arrive at one of them.

Stage 1 — palpate Liv° and Mu°, and grade them. Right first, then left, one after the other, never together. Write both grades on the card even when one of them is silent.

Stage 2 — ask the stool question, and ask it for form and not for frequency. Not are you constipated. Is the motion banana-like, or hard, or medium, or thin — and how many times a day? Indian households will answer this precisely and without embarrassment if you offer them the comparisons the therapy itself uses: banana-like · very hard, in small small pieces, like a goat's motion · medium, cow-dung-like · very thin, three or four times a day.

Stage 3 — read the answer as a direction. Hard and infrequent, with Mu° tender → a great deal of acid; the acid must be reduced further, and the alkali must not be reduced too much. Medium → alkali increased somewhat. Thin and frequent → alkali increased a good deal; the acid must be increased more.

Stage 4 — pick the version, and write the whole line out. Not "1,25 DCC". The line, with today's chest count, today's spine count, and — where the order has been turned about — the underline beneath the reversed points, so that tomorrow's hands do not give the usual order out of habit. And the explanation printed with that last version, which must travel with it because it is the therapy breaking its own balancing rule deliberately and saying so:

To balance (10) ↑|↓ one ought to give (4) Ch. Only only. By giving (8) Ch. Only, the alkali will be reduced more in comparison with (4) Ch. Only — which is necessary for patients who have thin stools.

That bracket is worth more than the formula it sits beside. A rule is stated; a case arrives in which the rule must be broken; the break is made on purpose, in a stated direction, for a stated reason, and it is written down beside the line so that nobody mistakes it for an error. That is what a working rule looks like in the hands of somebody who made it.

TAKE CARE

The note about the kidneys, and what follows from it for your hands

If the kidneys become spoiled, then in such a condition 1,25 DCC will not be made, and those patients can get osteoporosis, in which the bones become so hollow that they cannot bear even a little pressure.

That sentence is written as an explanation. Take it as an instruction as well, because the formula it is printed beside ends in twenty applications along the spine with the patient prone.

Ask, before that step, in every older patient and in every patient with kidney disease: have you been told your bones are thin? have you broken a bone from a small fall? have you taken steroid tablets for a long time? If any answer is yes, there is no forceful pressure on that spine and no leverage, whatever the card says — and the conversation to have is with your teacher about what to give instead, not a quiet decision to press a little more gently.

The therapy has told you, in its own words, that such a bone cannot bear even a little pressure.
