(30) Medulla — the prostaglandin treatment
The longest count, the widest list — and a refusal reasoned from not knowing
The longest count in the family, and the one with the widest list of uses. About how the inspiration for it came, the therapy says only that it is difficult to say anything other than divine grace.

From the several signs above, it seemed that this treatment stimulates certain kinds of chemicals called prostaglandins, or improves their functioning. And so the physiology of the prostaglandins becomes, for this member alone, the therapy's own index of further uses.
In the bodies of animals there are 14 kinds of prostaglandins, whereas in the human body there are 13 kinds, which have different names. They are made in several places in the body, and they work near the very place where they are made.
What the prostaglandins are, as this therapy holds them
Prostaglandins A and E — these lower the BP. Prostaglandin F — raises the BP.
Prostaglandin E₂ and Interleukin #1, both meeting together, bring on fever. (Interleukin #1 is a chemical which stimulates the working of neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes.)
Prostaglandins cause the blood vessels of the kidneys to dilate, and expel salt and water through the kidneys, from which high BP will fall.
Prostaglandins E₁ and I₁ can perhaps prevent the GFR — the glomerular filtration rate, that is the speed of filtration inside the kidneys — and the flow of blood inside the kidneys from falling.
That last line is the reason a treatment named for inflammation sits in a family that also claims to activate the kidney.
And then the refusal, which is the most quietly impressive sentence in the article.
