Having become skilled in his new technique, he began treating other people in his own neighbourhood, free of charge. Word travels fastest through households, and what travelled was that a boy at the Mehra house could do something for a belly.

Soon a crowd came. People suffering from constipation, dysentery and other disorders of the abdomen, from nearby areas and then from distant ones, formed a line in front of his father's house — and he treated them, with great success, by his newly invented technique.

By 1944 he was proficient in navel setting and in the disorders of bowel movement, and well known in Amritsar and the surrounding areas for treating abdominal patients successfully and free of charge with a technique he had developed himself. He was twelve years old.

Two things about that queue decided the architecture of this wiki. The complaints were digestive — constipation, dysentery, disorders of the abdomen. Not knees, not migraines, not paralysis; those came later, to a man whose formative years had been spent with his hands on bellies. It is why diagnosis begins at the navel, why undigested food has articles of its own, and why a patient who comes about a shoulder is so often given ten days of digestive work first.
