Lying on the side: the pillow rules that come before every side-lying point
For the side-lying points of Neurotherapy (LMNT), the way the patient is laid belongs to the treatment itself. A pillow always goes under the head, and the pillows at the knees go in different places for Acid and Fluid, for Parkhoo and for the vitamin points.
Overview
In every treatment given lying on the side, a pillow goes under the head so that the neck rests straight. For anyone with neck pain or cervical spondylosis, that is wear of the neck bones, this is compulsory. Without it the head sags and the neck is held bent sideways for the whole session, which narrows the openings where the nerves leave the neck. The pillow is placed before the patient lies down, and its height is right when the nose, breastbone and navel lie on one line.
For Acid and Fluid, pillows go under the bent upper knee, so that knee is not below the level of the waist, and the top shoulder stays turned outward. If the shoulder leans inward, the back of the thigh rises and the treatment hurts more. For Parkhoo, pillows go between both knees, the knees are drawn close to the chest and the shoulder leans towards the chest, so the edge of the thigh bone stands out at the hip. In very thin thighs this pillow is compulsory. For the vitamin points the legs stay straight, in line with the body.
In all of them a pillow lies between the thighs, and the pillows are built up to a level, not counted. One firm pillow may be enough for one person and not for another. The exact positions are taught hands-on in the course.
Key points
- A pillow under the head in every side-lying treatment; compulsory for neck pain and cervical spondylosis.
- Acid and Fluid: pillows under the bent upper knee, shoulder turned outward.
- Parkhoo: pillows between the knees, knees to the chest, shoulder leaning in.
- The upper knee should not sink below waist level.
- A pillow between the thighs in all of them.
